Which path should I start with?
- Either. If you are new to GRC, Traditional GRC gives you the vocabulary and the judgment first, in the browser, with nothing to install. If you want to build, start GRC Engineering at Set up your workbench. Nothing is locked, so you can move between them.
Do I need an account?
- You can read every page without one. You sign in when you start a mission, so your progress, notes and completed missions have somewhere to live. It is free and there is no card.
What do the builds cost?
- The first three run in a GitHub Codespace, which comes with free monthly hours on a personal account, and your spending limit starts at $0. The two AWS builds walk you through setting up a budget alert before anything else. IAM least privilege is free. AWS detective controls costs well under a dollar if you tear it down the same day, and the build tells you exactly how.
My Codespace stopped. Did I lose my work?
- No. A Codespace stops itself after 30 minutes idle, and your files stay where they were. Open github.com/codespaces and start it again. Anything you committed and pushed is also safe on GitHub, which is why every build has you push after each milestone.
AWS says my session or token has expired.
- Your sign-in to AWS lasts eight hours by default. In the Codespace terminal, run
aws sso login --profile labs --use-device-code, follow the link it prints, and approve the code. Then run the command that failed again. What I see doesn't match the build.
- Cloud consoles and tools change their wording now and then. If a step no longer matches, send feedback with the build's name and the milestone you're on, and it will be fixed. The commands themselves are pinned to exact versions so they keep working.
A checkpoint I ticked has gone.
- Checkpoints save as you tick them and sync to your account in the background, so they follow you to another browser once you sign in there. If one looks missing, refresh the page once. Completing a build is saved to your account straight away.
I didn't get the sign-in or reset email.
- Give it a few minutes and check your spam folder. If it still hasn't arrived, use the contact form and say which email address you signed up with.
